It’s not Wednesday, but I couldn’t wait to share this iconic, mid-century find: A very atomic-looking ring designed in the 1950s by Henning Koppel for Georg Jensen. I got it at the Value Village. I recognized the Star Trek shape straight away, but these designs were quite copied in the day. It wasn’t until I got it home that I could confirm the beaded Georg Jensen maker’s mark and inventory number.
Henning Koppel was one of the artisans who transformed Copenhagen’s venerable Georg Jensen company into a leading proponent of what we now know as Danish Modern design. Trained as a sculptor and painter, he created dynamic and fluid jewellery, tableware, lighting, cutlery and clocks, among many other things. I’m so happy just to hold such an example of artistry — although holding it all I’ll be able to do as it is super small.
