Mostly Free Finds

Apologies for the pause in posting. It was very hot and I was very broke so I mostly stayed parked inside in front of the fan, working hard to make money. I did, on occasion, leave the house for ambles to get some exercise. I went to one yard sale up the street last Sunday where I got these Birkenstock EVA Arizona’s for five dollars.

A few doors up from that yard sale was a large assemblage of “free” boxes. An entire apartment building was vacating. I picked up this bag (to carry things home in) and some baubles. There was also a jar full of tiny bird skulls and coral that I gave to my friend Lynda (but forgot to take a picture of). And there was a bunch of loose change in one of the boxes. At least five dollars’ worth, making the Birks essentially free.

On a night walk, I found this pair of pony skin Converse Chuck Taylor High Tops on the sidewalk. I looked them up online and they were part of a 2019 limited edition so I listed them on Poshmark (but if they don’t sell I’ll wear them).

I was visiting my mom this weekend. There was a yard sale across the street from her building. I found this 1970s Seiko in a tray full of watches. It is missing a crystal and the second and minute hands but it runs. The seller gave it to me gratis.

And finally, I was doing my mom’s laundry (she just had knee surgery). The laundry room in her building is where people leave things that they don’t want anymore — mostly picture frames and books. I found this first edition of Harper Lee’s “Go Set A Watchman.” I’m a rare book collector now.
