Fixies: Huge Openback Rhinestone Bracelet

big baubles

So last week I got a bag of broken jewels containing the humungous turquoise glass, bow-shaped fur clip I wrote about last week. While there was absolutely nothing wrong with the clip, the bag also contained a wounded but still beautiful bracelet. The plating had dulled, it was missing a stone and the push clasp was broken. But I was still compelled to make it wearable again. While I didn’t have a replacement for the missing peridot-coloured crystal, I did have a smokey quartz-toned stone of the same size on hand. Because the stones are prong set, resetting it was a snap. The plate wear doesn’t bother me as it is even. So the big challenge was the missing clasp. I don’t have the soldering skills need for such a repair and it’s not really worth it to pay someone to do. So I used the o-rings from the safety chain to attach a vintage fold over clasp. It’s not the most polished repair, but it makes the bracelet wearable in a shabby chic way. Here it is pictured stacked with my oversized smokey quartz bracelet. One step closer to being able to rock this look.
