A Visit to the Sally Ann

Robert Larin Pendant

Because it is Austerity April, I’ve been laying off the shopping. Because it is Spring cleaning time, I’ve been making frequent trips to the thrift shops to get rid of things that we don’t need. Sometimes this is very trying for me because I see fabulous things at wondrous prices. And sometimes I just cave, like when I spotted this Robert Larin pendant in a bag of broken jewellery at the Salvation Army earlier this week.

Blue Mountain Pottery Owl and Beauce Vase

But sometimes there’s great things that I just don’t have room for, like the wonderful Blue Mountain Pottery Owl or the Beauce ceramic vase pictured above. I know I don’t have a place for these beauties, but that doesn’t stop me from staring and rationalizing and wishing that I could take them home. My friend Abi later suggested that I start a sideline running thrift shopping safaris because I’m always finding stuff. I may look into this.

Midcentury Scandinavian Dining Set

But the most painful miss is when you come across something that you need and that you want but you still can’t afford — even at thrfft shop prices. This six piece dining set was gorgeous, in excellent shape but they wanted $500 bucks for it.
