Classics of Design: Georg Jensen Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe Bangle Watch
What is the opposite of thrift? The amount of money I spent to win this watch in an eBay auction. But I have always wanted something from the iconic design house of Georg Jensen. And I have always admired my friend Alison Reid’s Vivianna Open Bangle.
For now, the closed bangle version will have to do.
Both watches were designed by Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe, a Swedish silversmith who signed on with Jensen in 1966. According to the Jensen site: “The face of the watch is a mirror, which reflects the present moment and returns the wearer’s focus to now.

Rhonda! Thanks so much for the mention with Vivianna watch. I love this watch (kindly donation by Jess’s dad) especially because of V’s intention that the open bangle be open because the wearer isn’t bound/confined by time (what an idea), and it doesn’t have numbers on the face so the wearer isn’t aware of the passage of time (not that she doesn’t look at the watch and see the ravages of the passage of time peering back, but the concept is admirable!).
Great blog! Hope we can all go to Christie in Sept.
Alison
I can’t wait until September!
