Birthstones: September Sapphires

Is your birthday in September? Then your birthstone is the sapphire. You probably already knew that. What you may not know is that sapphires come in a rainbow of colours: blue, orange-pink, gold and white and black like the stones pictured above. These gems also have rutile crystal inclusions which create a six-pointed-star light effect called asterism. That’s right, they are Star Sapphires. Unfortunately I am unable to capture this effect with my camera.

Actually September has two birthstones. Lapis is the other lucky talisman for this month.
