Midweek Modness: Rhodachrosite Stirrup Ring

Sterling rhodachrosite stirrup ring

I have always had a thing about stones. Once, after a family holiday, my mother picked up my suitcase, found it to be unusually heavy, opened it up and discovered that all of my clothing had been tossed away and replaced with rocks that I had collected on our trip. So one of the things that attracts me to the work of mid century jewellery designers was their appreciation for and innovations with semi-precious stones.

Like this silver rhodachrosite stirrup ring that I found at the Value Village yesterday. Like their spiritual ancestors in the Arts and Crafts movement, modernists embraced opaque stones like this. They also favoured simpler lapidary over highly faceted cuts. I also love how this highly pointy cabochon cut is integrated into the shape of the ring.
