Vacation From Vacation

It seems to take me longer and longer to fully recover from travel. I spent the first few days back barely leaving the couch. It doesn’t help that I blew my budget going to California . And it’s super hot and humid here too. I haven’t had much motivation to leave the house and the cooling Dyson fan within. (Not a paid promotion but the Dyson is one of the best investments I ever made as well as my best, non-sentient friend).

Staying in wouldn’t be so bad if I wasn’t so slothful. On one hand, I remember my Grandfather’s words about listening to the earth and living according to her rhythms. If it’s too hot, slow down. Don’t overtax the environment with air conditioning or by driving from place to place to pretend it’s winter. I also had a Scottish, Protestant work-ethic kind of Grandfather so I feel incredible anxiety if I’m not doing something all the time.

So while I sat on the couch watching Season Two of The Bear, I stitched up a top from wax cloth fabric I got at the Value Village a few months ago.

When we returned, this lovely print was waiting for me. It is flash art by an Australian tattoo artist and ceramicist called Stacey Ann. I love the illustration and I also want to dress like this (I already have Garfield socks). And I didn’t even have to leave the house to enrich my life.

Speaking of socks, I did have to go to the dentist yesterday (making me even broker). I stopped off at the Dollarama to get some stain remover (I got cherry juice all over my top in California) and I also picked up these smiley face socks. I have to be careful not to make whimsical socks my entire personality.
