Power Tuft Girl

It has been a week. I went to the dentist to have my broken wisdom tooth fixed. The dentist said the fracture was most likely caused by grinding and asked if I had any stress in my life and I said, “Yes, from not having enough money to pay all these dental bills.”

Anyway, she recommended doing some meditative things. So I went with my friend Sonya and her friend Eden to Fuzzy Labs to learn rug tufting. I actually signed up before the emergency dentistry. And it wasn’t cheap either. I thought about canceling but why give someone else a financial burden?

I’m glad I went. Making things is my meditation. And tufting is emotionally satisfying in two ways: you have to be mindful of what you’re doing, so you can find yourself in a zen-like state just staying in the lines and you get to work out any emotional issues because of the powerful rat-a-tat-tat of the gun.

I picked a simple Snoopy design for my first attempt. And I chose to work on a large scale so I didn’t have deal with fine details. Even though it was basic it still took about three hours to fill in the shape. The crew at Fuzzy Labs was very good at setting us up. They are also going to add backing and binding (which is why I don’t have a photo of the finished project.

It’s far from perfect but I think it’s a decent result for a first-timer. I definitely want to go back and try out some other ideas I have. Plus I tried to get them to sell me this cute kitty they had hanging on the wall. They wouldn’t do it so I guess I’ll have to make my own.
