Thriftercize

It’s been sooooooo hot recently that I’ve been getting my steps in walking the aisles of air conditioned second hand stores. I’m desperately trying not to shop for a million different reasons (I have too much stuff and I can’t afford to spend money anyway), I like the exercise of pretend shopping to keep my skills up. But sometimes I fail and buy stuff anyway. Like this pretty gingham dress from local designer Red Sky.

Even when buying second hand, I try to adhere to such principles as buying only garments made from natural fibres. Pockets are a big plus as well. This vintage linen jacket certainly fits the bill.

Still, sometimes I go off leash and buy something ridiculous like these 100 percent polyester sweatpants. Why did I get them? Because my inner Edith Prickly is forever looking for anything animal print. I still carry around a picture I took of a woman on my Megabus to New York who was wearing leopard print joggers, a white tank top and a fairly formal orange overcoat. I will forever keep trying to replicate this. These pants are also from Bucc-ees—a chain of mega truckstops in the American south which I have never been too but am obsessed with. I mean, they sell garments like this. What else do they offer?

(Speaking of merch, I also picked up one non-thrifted item when I was in Kitchener a couple of weeks ago: this 7-11 Slurpee T-shirt reminded me both of the Rolling Stones logo and The Rocky Horror Picture Show).

I also found this Lego watch at the VV in KW. Because I have a think for colourful plastic timepieces, I’ve been looking for one for a while. I actually had a Lego Movie model for a bit but the strap was too short. I should’ve kept it. The bracelet on this Woody from Toy Story character watch is too loose. I could’ve done a transplant with the extra links.
