Thriftercize

The weather is getting crummier. My preferred form of exercise is going for long ambles, but that’s not so much fun on cold, windy and rainy fall days. Much easier to walk around inside, preferably going from thrift store to thrift store.

Thrift shopping is also a good motivator for leaving the house. I’m on a strict budget but I also had some coupons and points saved up, so I treated myself to some treasures. Up top is a Furby. It worked for a second when I put fresh batteries in it but then it stopped. I guess I’ll be spending the weekend watching YouTube tutorials on how to fix it.

I also bought a cape. If I’ve learned any thing from my many decades on this earth it’s that capes are highly impractical and sometimes dangerous (I once got one caught in a door). I have also learned that I will never stop buying dumb things. My excuse this time is that you never know when you’ll get the call up to be on The Traitors.

I also brought home this Made In Japan tiger. It reminded me of ceramics I have seen that depict tigers devouring colonial soldiers. It has also been repaired and I can never say no to a misfit.

Got a cool yellow Dooney & Bourke crossbody bag for an improbable $6.99. This is still more expensive than my first vintage D&B, which I found in a box of free stuff in Alphabet City in New York about 10 years ago. I still have it. These bags are indestructible.

I’ve never seen a yellow D&B but it matches the colour of these Manitobah Muklucks that I bought this week. I have a lower cut pair in white already so I didn’t technically need them. And at $36, they are pricier than all my other finds combined (after coupons and seniors discount). Sometimes you don’t need to justify every purchase.

And finally, two jewellery purchases. A trade bead necklace with two gilt pendants (above), and a cute origami owl that’s been coated in resin and made into a brooch. The effect is very Lea Stein. I also bought it to study it to make crafts.
