The Real McCoy
I made an early-morning jaunt to the Value Village on Tuesday. The first thing that I espied was this McCoy planter. Before you assume I have an eagle-eye, you should know that I had one of these before and they are probably the least rare of all McCoy Pottery pieces (the most collectible — and counterfeited — are cookie jars)
Nelson McCoy Sanitary Stoneware Company started up in 1910 and endured through most of the twentieth century. This piece is usually dated to circa 1947. I would like, one day to find some non-kitschy McCoy planters and jardinieres. And then I would like to have a lovely built-in shelf on which to display them. Then I will know I’m a grown up lady of taste and distinction.
