Collections Week: Vintage Jewellery Boxes
I know I talked about buying accessories for my watches before. I also like to gather up any old jeweller’s boxes that I find. In the olden days, jewellers seemed to put a lot more effort into their presentation boxes. Fancy jewellery suites would come in custom-made cases. Still, most jewels get separated from their little houses over time. I have a lot of the velvet-covered type-snap boxes, but older, leather-bound boxes are much harder to find.
Another thing I like about the old-timey presentation boxes is that they usually have the names of the jewellers embossed somewhere on them. Of the cases and pouch pictured above, three are marked: there’s Owen Robinson Ltd. Leeds, Jewellers & Silversmiths; Dan-Dee Import W. Germany; and Cousins Jewelers Inc., 152 State St., Hammond, Indiana.
Look how happy my gems look sleeping in their nice little beds.

I have this old box with the jewellers name inside it ” L. & S. Bracknell Jewellers @ Silversmiths
3, Picadilly Circus, W
Next to London Pavillion Music Hall”
I was wondering if any one knows if it could be an antique? Thank you.
Sorry, it’s hard to know without a picture.
