Three short stories about Black Flag:

1. When I was a young punk, I used to really like Black Flag, but then I interviewed Henry Rollins. He was a giant, self-involved dink. Then I no longer liked Black Flag at all.
2. I grew to dislike Rollins so much that another time, when I was interviewing Kurt Cobain and he mentioned that he wanted to get the Black Flag logo tattooed on his arm, I gave him the advice that there was a good possibility that he would meet Henry Rollins, who would be a jerk to him, and then he would regret having this reminder inked into his flesh permanently.
3. A few years later, my friend Rob and I were driving back from Ottawa. It was a beautiful night and “Rise Above” was playing and I saw a shooting star. And then I was able to separate my appreciation of the music from my dislike of the man again.
