Slap Bet

One of the problems of having a bunch of fancy old watches is that humidity is not good for them. So over the summer, when I found my timepieces fogging up, I stopped wearing my manual winds and opted for the Rainbow Watch my brother and sister-in-law gave me for Christmas a few years back. But then its battery died and I couldn’t be arsed to replace it. A couple of weekends ago, Lynda and I were leading a design walk and I needed a watch to keep us on schedule but it was pouring rain. One of the stops on our tour was Bergstrom Originals in Riverside, which is a great place to get Scandinavian-inspired clothes created by local designer Christina Bergstrom. Bergstrom also has a pretty inspired collection of accessories and just happened to have a selection of Slap Watches on sale. So I bought a nice bright orange model.

And that’s the story of that watch. It is my new rain watch.

I will get a battery for the Rainbow Watch (and all of my other quartz watches that are currently sitting a drawer — I don’t want to treat them as disposables).
