Yardies

As you know, I enjoy a good yard sale. Here are some recently got goodies from the last couple of weekends. The most major acquisitions came from a sale across the street. I purchased two sterling studio rings — one a titillated quartz, the other an abstracted “Pisces” piece. Look closely to see the little fishies.

I also picked up two fancy bags. First up, a red Longchamp. I need to patch up holes in the corners and the zipper wants fixing, but it was also only $5.

In much better shape is this brown suede Miu Miu purse. The seller was bemoaning the fact that no one wanted it. It’s probably because it’s not the most fashionable style at the moment and because the Miu Miu branding—while correct—is very discreet. On the other hand, it’s very well made so I bought it.

The third find is this Bamana Chi Wara antelope headdress from Mail. I’m thinking is was poorly stored for decades because it had a terrible musty smell and the dehydrated wood snapped a few days after I brought it home. I am currently try to repair it, hence the twine wrapped around its head.

moving on….

The next yard sales didn’t result in museum quality finds, but there were still things that tickled my fancy, such as this Rajasthani Bangle. For an extra fifty cents, I also purchased some linen lobster bibs. I don’t eat lobster but I am sometimes a messy eater and I also liked the graphic.

Most of the yard sales I visited were pretty disappointing (kid’s stuff), so I actually burned a lot of shoe rubber looking for treasure. But even when it’s a 20-something sitting on a stoop filled with online makeup purchases that they now regret, you can sometimes get something cool. Like this Nikon Coolpix point and shoot. I haven’t taken pictures with a non-phone camera in many years. This ‘lil baby will hopefully up my photography game.
