Catching Up

I have been busy. I have been tired. Too tired and busy to blog. I want to share a few random things but I don’t have the energy to go into deep dives about them. Sometimes one just wants to post pictures and have a little place on the internet that’s an archive of acquisitions. Like this Gloomy Bear beanie I got in New York. In the late ‘90s, Gloomy Bear was an obsession!

As my bones get creakier, thrifting gets harder. I don’t have the physical patience to spend hours combing through bins and racks. At the same time, my eye for finds is more refined so I’m able to find good things — like this plaid ruana and handmade Brazillian cowboy boots — with less effort.

I also did a bit of online shopping. Virginia Johnson had an online sale. I’m a big fan and have a few of her scarves, her travel book and a bathing suit from her ill-fated Target collection. I’ve always wanted a caftan so that I could fully inhabit the lifestyle. And now I have one (though I’ll have to wait until spring until it’s warm enough to wear it).

Another online purchase: this Grey Gardens/NHL mashup t-shirt from comedian Dave Hill’s website.

I finished up October with a few more end of season finds. I plan to decorate the quilted jacket with fabric paint or embroidery in a Bode style. The thrifted striped shirt represents my desire to make peasant tops my signature. The pants are a Rosebud situation: my most beloved trousers ever were a pair of striped culottes from when I was in high school. I’m sure if I searched through the back issues of this blog I would find several posts of purchases that tried to replicate those pants but didn’t quite fill the longing. But these pantaloons come quite close.
