Souvenirs Of Niagara Falls

Today I mostly worked from hotel but I took a two hour stroll in between projects to get some air and exercise. My destination was a favourite thrift shop — Evergreen Thrift — and a nearby strip of dusty old souvenir shops. I was hoping to revisit the Niagara Gift Shops of my youth with their snow globes and weird kitty cat figurines made of rabbit fur. Peering through the windows of my first stop made my heart leap with nostalgic joy. The only problem was that it wasn’t open.

So much kitschy goodness and priced to sell! Thwarted, I went across the street that had a rack of sunfaded t-shirts. But the pickings were slim. All the good stuff was child-sized. I was also excited by an amazing selection of moccasins until I found out that the only ones in my size were missing the left shoe.

I did buy this $3 muscle tee.
Next stop was a favourite shop, Evergreen Thrift. This time there was a lot of cool things but once I got the Niagara Fall shirt, I lost interest in clothes. I was fascinated by a gross of pens advertising the services of a local milk man called Walt. All dried up of course, but at two for fifty cents I couldn’t say no either.

And because I forgot my rings, I bought this here skully and snakey. In retrospect I should have bought more. Like a whole fist full.

The Evergreen Thrift is right across the street from a Dollar Tree, where I bought some inexpensive hair accessories and a little canvas crossbody pouch that I mean to embroider.

And what did I bring it all home in? This batik print bag that I got at Value Village (but forgot to inventory) yesterday.
