Toppers

I hate to break up the doll posts but I wanted to share my most recent hat acquisitions. You see, I am a pasty sort who should never be out in the sun. Yet, I frequently find myself outside sans chapeau. So I’ll buy a new one to protect myself from harmful UV rays. Even though I already have an extensive collection of visors and caps, I still managed to bring home four new hats this month. Would you like to meet them?
I picked up the sailor hat two weekends ago in Buffalo. I actually had a hat with me but it was all sweaty and I cannot bear feeling damp. This is a big conundrum for me: hats make me hot (what was it they used to say about winter hats? You lose most of your body heat through your head?). Next.

This straw hat is my favourite new topper. It’s vintage but I haven’t been able to figure out just how old. Pre 1980s for sure. Maybe 1960s? Anyway very stylish. It was a $5 steal at the Value Village. My issue with straw hats is that they are not very packable. You can’t just stuff them in your purse when you go into a restaurant or travel with them.

This is a fun one. Another day. Another thrift safari. Anything Blue Jays is alright by me. I also like bucket hats because they are easy to stuff in a backpack or back pocket. But it turns out this is technically a Cricket Cap with a slightly wider brim than a bucket. I also discovered that it was a Cricket Day giveaway on May 10. So somebody donated it just a couple of weeks later.

And finally a traditional bucket hat that I found in a box of free stuff on the sidewalk. Beige is not my bag, so the goal is to gussy it up with some fabric markers. If the operation is successful I might try customizing the Gilligan cap as well.
