Doll Parts: Dress Up

A quick recap. Oversized fashion dolls and dolls with gimmicks were super popular in the 1970s. I had a red-headed Chrissy who, when you tugged her tresses, grew a long pony tail out of the top of her head. I also owned a Quick Curl Caribbean Cara Barbie whose wig mixed fine copper wire into her nylon strands so that you could style it.

My best friend Susie has a Tiffany Taylor, a doll whose hair turned from black to blonde with a twist of her scalp. TT was hard to cone by but Susie’s auntie Marg worked at Eaton’s so she had an in. I was a little jealous.

Tiffany Taylor mania was short-lived and I never got the chance to acquire my own doll until about 40 years later when my friend John Webster posted a picture of a sad, rain soaked TT pitched in a trash pile dressed only her original line green shoes. I messages him for the location and dragged myself out into the storm to rescue her.

I immediately cleaned her up and detangled her twisty wig, but it has taken a lot longer to amass a wardrobe. I recently discovered that American Doll clothes fit (with a little alteration, anyway). And I’ve recently lucked out and found a few bags of them at the Value Village. Here are a few of my favourite fits.

Like Tiffany’s hair, these trousers are reversible. Cheetah print on one side, tan cords on the flip.
