Finders Keepers

A combination of inclement weather, being broke and trying to shop Canadian has put a damper on shopping safaris. But do not worry, I still managed to get some fantastic finds in while still sticking it to the man. Pictured above is a snake eye turquoise, southwestern style ring that I got at the Salvation Army last week. It is signed MM and looks like the mark of silversmith Michael Mendoza. I also picked up this mohair cardigan. I got it because I was underdressed and freezing. It is a little snug but come spring I will try and reblock it.

When the weather outside is frightful, I enjoy scrolling through facebook marketplace, searching for watches. I have got a few good finds — namely my Zenith Time Command and a Movado Museum watch — but scores are generally few and far between. But I spotted a jewelry lot that looked like it had potential despite the bad photos. It yielded this enamelled Mecca pendant which I know is gold (though I don’t know the karat amount because the hallmarks are in Arabic).

But the real beauty in this batch is this dainty 1958 Eterna Matic. It’s keeping great time but the bracelet it broken. It’s marked Expandro and is actually quite comfortable and suits the watch well. Part of me wants to have it fixed if it’s not too expensive, but I also have a lot of other watches in the project box. I am going to need to sell a bunch of stuff on Facebook Marketplace to afford all of these repairs.
