Get The Thrift

And now for a catch up on some recent thrift shop and yard sale finds. Let’s start with this vintage Bally valise. It needs some cleaning on the inside but otherwise it’s in good nick.

My nephew was in town for a visit two weekends ago and we did a food tour of Parkdale. We passed a late season yard sale where I picked up this handcuff-themed bangle.

I also bought a pair of mini cuffs at the same sale. I turned them into a necklace.

The weather is getting colder. We were wearing sundresses two weeks ago and now I’m in the Value Village looking for sweatshirts. I bought a Miami Hurricanes college football pullover that totally suited me in the store but not so much in the streets.

I will put it up for sale on Poshmark I guess (the current Canada Post situation is rotating strikes so I can peddle my wares on the internet again).

A better fit is this Champion X Charlie Brown zig zag sweatshirt. I have long wanted one and I guess you could say the Great Pumpkin came early this year.

The biggest bargain of all was this pair of Vionic boots. Because of my myriad chronic health issues, my health care team is always recommending that I wear wide footwear with good arch and ankle support. Vionic is a feet-friendly brand that’s been on my radar for awhile. Unfortunately their boots are just out of my price range — until they pop up in the thrift, in my size, for $15.

Finally, some odds and sods. I also picked up this carved stone skull (above) and Balinese lapis and mother of pearl chain and pendant (below) at the Value Village in Leslieville — a location I rarely venture to anymore. Someone had removed the price tags and hidden them in the toy section. Value Villagers display odd habits. That’s why you gotta check every inch of the store for little Easter Eggs distributed throughout the shop. Why they hide things and just don’t pay for them or ask someone to hold them until you get money, I’ll never know.
