Alexander McQueen 1969-2010

I’m still coming top terms with Alexander McQueen‘s death. My skin is crawling and I feel near tears — all for a man I’ve never met but have deeply admired. Maybe this is what my mother felt when Elvis died.

McQueen was a complete creative genius — his clothes, his runway shows, his advertising campaigns all inspired and provoked discussion. His collaboraters were an eccentric but loyal bunch — musicians, paralympians, milliners and artists.

But his influence was felt throughout all of fashion land. In a way, his bad boy image and provocative presentations helped keep the artistic side of business in balance during the celebrity-chasing bling decade.

And now that balance is thrown and we all feel a bit discombobulated.

His next collection was scheduled for Paris Fashion Week on March 9. No word yet if the show will go on.
