Midweek Modness: Studio Copper Flower Brooch

What is studio jewelry? I think that it’s hand-made, one-of-a-kind jewellery. When I was a kid, we would go to Aberfoyle, and there would be all these artisans making pretty pins like the one pictured above, using old-timey skills. They all looked like they were from the television programme The Starlost, which, as I recall, was a show about space hippies.

Why was copper so popular with jewelry artists in the ’70s? I guess because it was inexpensive and easy to work. It also had highly touted healing properties. Remember the Sabona arthritis bracelets? It's also said to improve blood circulation.

Is this a studio piece from the ’70s? When I first saw it, it reminded me (a little) of Canadian metal artist Nancy Meek. It’s not signed or anything, but my sense of nostalgia tells me that it was made by space hippies.
