Hand painted russian tole brooch

Here’s an interesting brooch I picked up at the Value Village for 99 cents. It and example of tole painting — a decorative folk style of painting on wood or metal. The cyrillic inscription along the bottom of the pin indicates that is probably Russian. The Russians have tole tradition called Zhostovo, in which flowers or scenes like this one, are hand painted onto a black background and then lacquered up. This one’s missing some of its varnish, but I admire its intricate brushwork. Plus, 99 cents.
