Midweek Modness: Mr. Andrew’s Flototto Chair

flototto chair

This is a chair that Mr. Andrew has had since before I met him. He has had a longer relationship with it than me, but I am not jelly.

In the 17 years that I have known Mr. Andrew, the chair’s origins have always been a bit mysterious. We had assumed 1970s Scandinavian (or a Canadian-made, Danish influenced design). Than, last week when I was walking past Morba, I noticed that they had a whole passel of these chairs for sale (from their props department). And they were labelled Flototto manufactured by Flôtotto. A bit of light Googling quickly revealed that this chair is in fact known as the Pagholz, it was designed by German Elmar Flototto manufactured by his family’s company Flôtotto. The company mainly manufactured furniture for the private and public sectors. Because it’s a stacking chair, this model was probably meant for schools (I’m also basing this guess on the fact that they made them in children’s sizes).
