International Style

Last week I went to NYC for work. Although I had already bought too much in Alaska, I did bring a short wishlist with me to Manhattan. Including this five dollar, Halloween kitty throw pillow from my favourite American dollar store, Five Below.

I also set out to get a pair of Mary Jane Crocs. I would have also liked to bedazzle them Simone Rocha-style with pearl and bow Jibbitz but my budget was too tight. Especially after you work out the crippling exchange rate.

And now for the things I didn’t set out to buy. I was only in town for two nights, but I needed two outfits (daytime profesh and nighttime cocktail) for Thursday. In an act of overzealous minimalism, I thought I could just throw a polo over my cocktail dress by day and a ruffly crepe jacket for my evening attire. I was wrong. It was way too hot for that get up. So I ran over to a nearby Old Navy and got a cotton peasant blouse and wide legged linen pants from the Clearance rack. It was a good call because I was fresh for the event.

In between my afternoon appointment and cocktails, I stopped in at my favourite NYC party clothes shop, Rainbow Boutique. I was there hoping to get a pair of mesh Mary Janes that I saw on their website. No dice. But they did have this fringed leather belt — I have l been searching for such an accessory since 2013, when I first added this picture of Taylor Tomasi Hill to my Pinterest board.
