My Spidey Sense
I think I’ve mentioned this before, but sometimes I have an uncanny ability to find certain things. For example, the time I woke up thinking “I wish I had a star sapphire.” And I went to the Value Village that very day and found one. There are also certain labels that I find again and again — Liberty of London and Burberry, for example — but I attribute that more to being educated about these brands than possessing a sixth, label whore-y sense. There’s also the fact that Toronto was pretty much a colonial outpost complete with Boots and Marks and Spencer well into the 80s, so the thrift shops tend to be well stocked with well-established British brands.
There are also things that I used to find all the time that I never find anymore. This category includes Hermès ties, like the ones pictures above. I’ve never found anything else by Hermès, but I would come across the ties with enough frequency that my male friends would put in an order for one and I would usually be able to fill that request in time for their birthday or Christmas.
Then, suddenly, the Hermès tie well dried up. Oh well, when one door closes, another opens. I wonder what wonders will appear next?
