Midweek Modness: Gary’s Sputnik Lamp

When our friend Gary moved to New York, we stored some of his stuff in our basement. But there are two things that I sort of borrowed from his cache: and old end table and the brass Atomic age lamp pictured above. This sputnik light is totally Jetsons. The reason they are called Sputnik is because the Soviet satellite Sputnik 1 had four antenna-looking arms stick out of a ball-shaped body. Many variations of this light fixture were (and probably still are) available. While we’ve had it for almost 10 years, I like to think of it as a beacon for Gary so he can always find his way home.
