Weekend Thrift Trip: Revisiting the ’80s
I took a trip to the Danforth Value Village before our improve show at Timothy’s last Friday. I found two decidedly ’80s looks. First off, I picked up floral print Laura Ashley dress. I remember this look — a little bit country, a little bit preppy — being very popular with the type of girl who aspired to be Princess Diana.
Some of my contemporaries ask me how I can stand to wear stuff from our awkward teen years. But I didn’t wear these styles back then, so it’s all new to me.
I also got a very flashy ’80s t-shirt (pictured below). Back in the day, I associated this look with a women who bleached their hair and wore too much makeup (indeed, they wore so much contoured blush that it continued on as a pink streak in their cotton candy tresses). But I love the mustardy colour — everyone I’ve showed this too says it’s crazy, but I think I can pull it off.

I enjoy your blogs and the items you post. I am 81 and have tried to find a job to supplement my sparce income to no avail…Probably because of my age…so I hired myself and opened 3 websites and keeping myself busy selling my vintage treasures. I am virtualmemories on Ruby Lane & Ruby Plaza and maryellensasenick on Etsy. I research the prices, take the pictures and write and edit the copy. I’m the one who imported the Ketty Dalsgaard bracelets from Denmark in the ’70…..that have become vintage colletibles because I made the B&D company put the signature on the bracelets. They are selling on the internet ….check our jordy b collectibles on ruby lane. She has every color and at resonable prices….she has fantastic vintage jewelry also. I have purchased several lovely pieces from her shop. I am also the person who ran Studio Girl Cosmetics in the ’80 & 90’s and had to close shop because of poor sales.
