Midweek Modness: Brutalist Pierre Cardin Earrings
Sometimes I come across costume jewellery from the 1970s and ’80s that are still travelling with their original card. Like the brutalist Pierre Cardin earrings pictured above.
Like Lanvin, the mid-century jewellery designs of Pierre Cardin have had a resurgence of interest of late, partially because of the popularity of “runway” or “statement” jewellery. Back in the day, his pieces were the epitome of futuristic fashion. Cardin also popularized ready-to-wear and licensing one’s name to department store products (the earrings pictured above, were originally sold at Sears for $9.99). By the ’80s, his brand lost a lot of it’s lustre.
I’d say that these earrings probably date to the early ’80s.

yep, brutalist and futurist sums them up. that’s fascinating information on these earrings – i remember my mother having a pair- and i hated them at the time, but now i look on them with some fondness and nostalgia. designer pieces of the 80s are attracting their own kind of ‘vintage’. edwina
