Midweek Modness: Jorgen Jensen Pewter Viking Ship Pendant
Jorgen Jensen was a Danish jewellery designer who worked mostly in pewter. He got started in Georg Jensen’s (no relation) studio for awhile before setting up his own shop between 1960 and 1965.
I’ve come across lots of Jensen’s pieces. Most are very minimalist in their design, but you can see the designers’ playful side in his representational work. This viking-themed pendant is signed Valhalla Jorgen Jensen Pewter Denmark 386 (and if you’re interested, it’s currently on sale in the Gracious, Good Etsy store).
Jorgen Jensen was Georg Jensen’s son – https://www.jensensilver.com/biography-jorgen-jensen
Actually, this Jorgen Jensen is often misattributed as the son of silversmith Georg Jensen. That Jorgen was born in the late 1800s and worked exclusively in silver. The pewtersmith Jensen was born in the 1930s and set up his studio in Copenhagen in the 1960s. Here’s a link with more information. Hope you find this information useful.
