Midweek Modness: Pierre Cardin Enamel Necklace

Pierre Cardin Enamel Necklace

This is not the first Pierre Cardin piece I have found, but it is the nicest. Born Pietro Cardin in Venice, the designer started his design career as a tailor before moving to Paris and joining the House of Paquin, then Schiaparelli and finally at Christian Dior during the same season that Dior unveiled the “New Look.” Cardin opened his own couture house in 1950, but it was his space age designs of the swinging sixties that really made him famous. It was during this time that he also created futuristic jewellery to compliment his minimalist dress designs. Cardin was also one of the first couturier to branch into ready-to-wear. At some point he became a victim of over-licensing his name (and therefore cheapening) his brand. But his modernist pieces still remain quite collectible.
