Is It Art?
I do not have the budget of a big time art collector, but I can afford multiples — mass produced objects designed by well known artists. Our latest acquisition is this limited edition San Pelligrino can designed by Toilet Paper, a magazine run by Maurizio Cattelan (who most famously taped a banana to a wall at Art Basel Miami, and Pierpaolo Ferrari. The magazine contains no text just collage-like images.
Mr. Andrew brought two cans home after a visit to Mattachioni to pick up pizza making fixings. I did not know that such a thing existed. We are going to add it not only to our collection of artist multiples (which includes a souvenir spoon by Ai Wei Wei, a Barbers Kruger t-shirt, a David Shrigley Plinth Statue, a Sanford Biggers light, an Alex Katz beach towel, a Gorilla Girls tea towel, a Yokozuna’s Ono pin, Jenny Holzer pencils, and General Idea soap, but also to our inventory of Toilet Paper pieces. Here it is pictured next to out “Crow” mirror.
