Midweek Modness: Vintage Robin Kahn Pewter Earrings
These 1980s era earrings by designer Robin Kahn are visually arresting — partially because they are enormous, but also because of the contrast of soft pewter finish and the stark, graphic shape.
Kahn — who won a Coty Award for belts and jewelry in 1984 — started out designing for Oscar de la Renta and Kenneth Lane during the 60s and 70s. I found a reference his belts a New York magazine from 1984 and a PDF of a fashion editorial in the Sept. 22, 1983 Kokomo Tribune. The price of a pair of earrings almost 30 years ago? Twenty two Yankee dollars.
The ’80s were Kahn’s heyday. The jewelery designer’s internet trail ends with a defunct URL and some meta descriptions advising that he now represents other jewelry designers.
