Lidsville

I struggle with summer hats. I love them but I have a huge loaf of bread head so it’s hard to find hats that fit so they fly off with the slightest breeze. And I’m a never cold, so chapeaux can make me extra sweaty. But I am also the pastiest person so I really need the sun protection lest I burst into flame.

Most of my hat collection is comprised of me leaving the house without headgear and then me getting heat exhaustion, neatly passing out and then running into Dollarama to buy something cheap. That’s how I got the boonie hat pictured above today.

Today’s errands brought me to Chinatown. And even though I just bought a boonie, a street vendor was selling bonnets. Yesterday, I saw a picture of someone at Copenhagen Fashion Week wearing a bonnet. So now I suddenly needed one as well.

I continued on my way up Spadina with my new hat packed into my purse because it as the sun had disappeared behind some rain clouds. In fact I could feel raindrops so I ducked into a favourite old school shop. They were selling the conical Vietnamese hat known as the nón lá. This hat works as both a Sun and a rain hat. So even though I had just bought two other head covers, I purchased a nón lá as well. And some cool kerchiefs because I can never have enough of those as well.
