July Birthstone: Ruby Ruby Ruby Ruby

If your were born in July, then your birthstone is the ruby. This pink to red stone is considered one of the four precious gems, along with emeralds, diamonds and sapphires. In fact, rubies like sapphires are a variety of corundum. A flawless ruby is rarer and therefore more valuable than a top quality colorless diamond.

Spiritually, wearing a ruby is said to send out all kinds of positive energy. And like all red stones, the ancients believed it was good for cleaning the blood.

This is the only example of the ruby I have in my collection: an art deco brooch.
