The bombings in Boston yesterday affected us all. Personally, my connection to the city is weak: I’ve visited. And like many Newfoundlanders, my great aunt moved there in the early 1900s looking for work. Still I was glued to the computer all afternoon, looking for answers to questions that nobody can really answer. Patton Oswalt’s Facebook status update is a good thing to read if you are looking for hope in the dark corners of humanity.

I still wanted to send some love out to Beantown today. So here is a silver brooch that I have. It’s a souvenir of the Boston Swan Boats, a tourist attraction in the Botanical Gardens for over 130 years. The Swan Boat rides are seasonal. They started up again just this past Saturday. They are a sign of spring in Boston. So I hope this little pin is a reminder of all that is enduring in Boston.
