Midweek Modness: Norman Grant
Here’s another piece that I sadly parted with recently. It is silver and enamel pendant by the Scottish silversmith Norman Grant. He started out as a graphic designer before moving into the metal arts, and it shows in bolder pieces like this pendant from 1975. IN his heyday, Grant was best known for his enamelled, Art Nouveau revival jewellery (Edwardian style was big in the Biba-era 1970s — just check out this album cover) and his designs were sold at upscale shops such as Liberty of London, Harrods and Marshall Field.
Still, I prefer the more modern look of Grant’s original, organic designs. Unfortunately by the 1980s, he decided to give up his independent studio to work for DeBeers. I was lucky to have had this pendant in my life for a while is only to discover the work of Grant.

love it! what is the central piece made from?
It’s enamel — beautiful enamel!
