Beauty in the Ruins: French Jet Beads
Sometimes I pretend I’m a jewellery archaeologist. I find treasure in bags of broken bijoux and I try to figure out where it came from and what it may have looked like so I can restore them to their former glory. This hand-knotted strand of French Jet (aka black glass) beads looks like it was attached to a tassel or two tassels — the break is too even and neat to have been a snapped string. Or maybe it was a sautoir with a neat panel centre panel. Maybe I will marry it to this cameo.
Whatever happens, it looks like I’ll have to dust off my hand-knotting skills.
