Freebie Friday: The Donnellys Must Die
It’s turned out to be a bit of a Canadiana week here on the blog. So it’s appropriate that I finish the week with this beat up old paperback that I found in a “free” box on the sidewalk. Growing up in Southwestern Ontario on the 1970s, the Black Donnellys were still talked about in hushed tones over a hundred years after their annihilation — probably because of sensationalistic pulp like this book. I consider this violent tale of the 1800s European immigrant experience a sordid companion piece to Roughing it in the Bush.
