Inuit Art in a Modern Home
Just got the fall winter lookbook for Winnipeg furniture outfitter, EQ3. Of course, my eye was immediately drawn to the stunning examples of Inuit sculpture in this room. I think people respond to art from arctic as art, pure and simple. I like these examples because they are of humans and impart emotions and complexity and although I love my collection of little animals, I really wish I had some bigger pieces mixed in.
I think this is a good rule of thumb across the board. If you can connect to something on an emotional level, it transcends being a decorative object. More art, I say!
While the whalebone piece might conceivably have some age to it, the two serpentine stone sculptures by Axangayuk Shaa (on the left) and Ovilu Tunnillie date to the 1990’s or 2000’s. Very nice pieces nonetheless.
Cool. Thanks for the info. Always want to give the right attribution to artists.
