Witch Ring? This Ring!
I was up until 2am last night, trapped in a Google rabbit hole all because I was researching this ring. Apparently it’s called a witch ring because it does a magic trick. You see, the two middle wires are twisted in different directions, creating a chevron pattern. Stare at the chevrons and tilt the ring up or down and it creates the optical illusion that the two soldered wires are coming apart.
That’s pretty much all the concrete information I found about witch rings other that they were a popular kind of “Love Token” in the Victorian era. Usually piece of jewellery with the word “witch” was given to your sweetie as a way of saying “you have bewitched me.”
