My Monogrammed Stickpin
A monogram is a design made by overlapping or combining two or more letters to form a single symbol. Monograms have been around as long as there’s been an alphabet, with varying degrees of popularity. Some people use this glyph as a signature. Fancy, monied folk liked to use them to brand their possessions.
In the late 1800s, monograms became so convoluted as to become virtually unreadable, not unlike the logo of a death metal band. Many years ago, I found this stickpin, which I choose to believe says R.W.R — my initials. Except that the first R is backward, of course.
