In the Soap
The Covet Garden crew is leading a design walk as part of the annual Walk on the Riverside. Last weekend, Lynda and I went to visit the shops we’ll be visiting, so I also took the opportunity to stock up on some of my favourite savons at Empire.
Technically, it’s two shops: Keep Me Posted, which carries cards, some gift items and a tightly edited collection of soaps such as Savon de Marseille — a brand I was not familiar with but that Lynda loves. I bought the fig hand soap on the strength of the scent alone. I also picked up their last bar of Acca Kappa Avocado soap (they’re not carrying that line anymore). The shop owner also passed on a secret for making triple milled soap last a little longer. “Get two bars,” she said, “and put one your knickers drawer until the first one wears out. It makes things smell nice and it dries out the soap, which extends it’s usefulness.”
The front half of the store, Empire, is a British import shop. I bought some Fairy Liquid, which is my fave dishwashing soap — a bottle lasts forever and it doesn’t leave a film.
