Midweek Modness: Cool Coasters

vintage 1970s paper coasters

Since I don’t drive, when I visit my parents in Kitchener my thrifting range is limited to second-hand shops within walking distance of my parents’ downtown apartment. Happily for me, the Bibles for Missions Thrift Store has relocated to Scott Street in the old Braun Bikes space. It’s a bright and clean space and while I’ve never found any big scores there, I always find something neat and cheap in the housewares section. Like this set of paper coasters. They are so distinctively seventies with their mod sliced apple design, avocado and orange colour scheme and flocked and embossed texture. Priced at only 25 cents I could not resist! Now the next question is what to do with them? I thought about découpaging them onto cork and making them reusable coasters, but I’m afraid of damaging the flocked finish.
