Freebie Friday: The Red Shoe

found shoe

This might qualify as the oddest thing I’ve found on the sidewalk: It’s a pointe shoe autographed by Greta Hodgkinson — a principal dancer with the National Ballet of Canada. I know that pointe shoes generally last one performance — two tops — and that the discarded slippers are often autographed and given to charities to be auctioned off. They are also usually auctioned off in pairs. So it’s not a rare object. What is unusual is that someone put it out on the sidewalk with a pile of old Artforums and New Yorkers.

In short, I had to pick it up and put it in my pocket. Now I just gotta figure out what to do with it.
