Archival Footage
Earlier this month, I was invited to take a gander at a special collection of rare and one-of-a-kind Dior Gran Bal Couture watches held at Archives. I’d seen them at Basel, but they were so beautiful that I wanted to see them up close again.
I wish I was a better photographer so you could see the lustre of the opal dial and the sparkle of the baguette diamonds. (The rep from Dior’s hot pink La Mini D de Dior was super cute too).
Or how about this fantastic, feather-trimmed functional oscillating weight?
The biggest treat was discovering Archives. The Yorkdale shop is tightly edited and features works by designers I’ve long admired, such as Tom Dixon, Delfina Delettrez and Pamela Love.
I was also introduced to some brands that weren’t on my radar, like eyewear maker Andy Wolf (pictured above), and clutch creator Nathalie Trad (pictured below).
I love the spirit of boutiques like Archives because the you can feel the joy and creativity that went into every selection. I don’t like to be told what to like, but I get excited when I find a shop like this — it’s like going to a new school and finding a friend that you have so much in common with who also shares new ideas and things. It’s exciting and mind-opening!
