Family Portraits

Last weekend I went to KW to visit the family for the first time since September. Traveling was a little anxiety-inducing and I have lost all my socialization skills over the last million months, so at our family picnic, I felt more comfortable drawing pictures than I did communicating.

I only had crayons to work with, but I sketched these studies of my niece and nephew.

I’ve been doing a lot of sketches in all kinds of medium over the last eight months so when I got home I figured it was time to actually finish a project. Pictured up top is a self portrait on a wood panel that I have painted over at least three times. Knowing when a picture is finished is probably my biggest artistic challenge. I usually overwork things but this feels almost finished. I may wake up in the middle of the night with a compulsion to ruin it though. So I am leaving this here as a document of its existence.
