Rosebud

When my cousin Edward’s daughter was little, she showed my her treasure box. If memory serves my, it was filled with her favourite finds and trinkets. You could tell that they were objects that she held very dear and I was honoured that she would share them with me. I was so inspired that I decided to make my own treasure box to stash under the bed.

This was back in the early 1990s, when I was at the peak of my Riot Girl essence. I come across this collection every few years. There’s all kinds of ephemera in it but I decided to share the jewelry elements today because sometimes I think about bringing them out of retirement because that look is coming back.

Up top are some pins that would have certainly studded my jean jacket. The second photo shows my favourite necklaces of that era: a blue enamel bunny bell that I got on a road trip to Knoxville, Tennessee; a brass coat check tag and a Pingu key guard that I think came in a Kinder Surprise. At the time, I was also predisposed to tying ribbons around my neck until they disintegrated.
